Of the two camps, Ahmek has been around longer. For 91 years Ahmek has been offering summer camp services to nature lovers all over.  Ahmek offers a range of activities and events to keep campers entertained. Campers are from the ages 6 - 16 and are either Bantams, Pioneers, Mountaineers, Voyagers or Seniors.

Here is a grace that Ahmek campers say every day after breakfast.
The Ahmek Hem
Lift we our hearts to the home of our dream,
Where beauty of nature and sky's glory gleam,
Deep in the wildwood, set like a gem,
Hail to old Ahmek, the maker of men.

Here broods the spirit of life of the age,
Here calls the future for saviour and sage,
Pledge we our hearts to thy spirit again,
Spirit of Ahmek, the maker of men.

A Great Summer Getaway for Young Adults

Hi my name is Chloe LeClair, and I am in the Travel and Tourism program. This blog is about the camps I used to go to and the trips you get to go on. This is mostly from mine and my camp friends experiences.

When I was about 8 years old my parents thought it would be a good experience for me to go to camp for the summer. This camp, The Taylor Statten Camps, was almost 4 hours away from home and located in  Algonquin Park. Being young, nervous and homesick, I spent the first couple of nights crying because I missed home. It only took me 3 or 4 days to realize that this place would soon become one of my favourite places in the world. By the end of each summer when I arrived home from camp, I found that I was no longer home sick, but camp sick.

The Taylor Statten Camps consist of two separate camps- Ahmek, the boys camp, and Wapomeo, the girls camp. They are located in Algonquin Park on Canoe Lake where you can see fabulous scenery and beautiful wildlife. Children from 6 - 16 are able to attend the camp for the summer. The boys camp consist of different age categories: Bantam, Pioneer, Mountaineer and Voyager. The girls camps age groups are: Kiowa, Tuscie, Shawnee, and Ojib. Every age group goes on a canoe trip and the length of the trip depends on how old the campers are. Some trips take place within the park, and some venture to the outpost camps located on Lake Maskinonge in Temogami. The camps offer many great and entertaining activities that both the boys a girls can participate in. They have horseback riding, high-ropes, rock climbing, tennis, basketball, swimming lessons, canoeing lessons, arts and crafts, pottery, archery and much more. I remember being so enthusiastic about everything that I was scheduled to do for that day. Every day was fun, and every day was yet another great memory that would last a lifetime.

Attending these camps does not only give campers great memories, but also teaches them useful skills and gives them an educational experience. I highly recommend it to your kids if you are a parent, or to you if you are a young teen looking for a summer teenage getaway.  I have so many great memories from this experience, many of which are from the people that surround you and make your stay a happy one. I met people from all over the world who attended this camp from Virginia (U.S), France and even from the Dominican Republic. I still miss the smell of Canoe Lake in the morning, and the sunrise and sunset on the lake, I miss canoe trips and sleeping in tents, I miss everything about that camp and I am forever camp sick.
